Islamabad, August 28, 2026: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has called for stronger economic and agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, with the two countries exploring greater trade, technology and investment partnerships in agriculture, water management and food security.
The Prime Minister made the remarks during a meeting with Saudi Minister for Environment, Water and Agriculture Engineer Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on Friday.
Welcoming the Saudi minister and his delegation, Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the deep-rooted and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and conveyed his warmest regards to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The Prime Minister said the recently signed Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye had brought the three countries closer and sent a message of unity and peace across the region.
He stressed that, as strategic partners, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia should now focus on expanding economic cooperation, particularly in agriculture, to transform their longstanding relationship into a stronger and mutually beneficial trade and investment partnership.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over the constructive engagement between the two countries, particularly regarding the export of Pakistani agricultural products to Saudi Arabia.
The two sides also discussed measures to improve agricultural productivity in Pakistan through greater use of modern technology, research and development, and more efficient management of water resources.
The Prime Minister announced that a delegation of Pakistani agricultural experts would soon visit Riyadh to advance discussions and identify practical avenues for expanding cooperation between the two countries.
The visit is expected to focus on strengthening agricultural collaboration and exploring opportunities to increase Pakistani agricultural exports to the Saudi market while improving productivity and resource efficiency at home.
Saudi Minister Abdulrahman Al-Fadley thanked the Prime Minister for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Pakistan in agriculture, water management and food security.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Atta Tarar, Jam Kamal Khan, Dr Musadik Malik, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Dr Syed Tauqir Shah and Bilal Azhar Kiyani, along with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and senior government officials.
