COMSATS, Yemen National Academy of Young Scientists Sign MoU for scientific cooperation

Islamabad, September 3,2026: The Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) and the Yemen National Academy of Young Scientists (YEM-SCI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in science, technology and innovation (STI), capacity building and scientific research.

The ceremony was attended by the Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Yemen, Jordan and Palestine, senior diplomats from Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, and representatives of international organizations. Dr. Ahmed M. Othman, Deputy President of YEM-SCI, along with other YEM-SCI officials, also participated virtually.

Speaking on the occasion, COMSATS Executive Director Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Nafees Zakaria highlighted the importance of South-South scientific cooperation and creating greater opportunities for young scientists to contribute to a sustainable future.

Ambassador of Yemen to Pakistan Mohammed Motahar Alashabi emphasized the importance of strengthening scientific and institutional ties between Pakistan and Yemen and appreciated COMSATS’ efforts in this regard.

The MoU is expected to open new avenues for research collaboration, scientific exchanges and capacity building for young Yemeni scientists, further strengthening cooperation between the two institutions.
