Dubai, September 7, 2026: Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee for breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct during the team’s Women’s Asia Cup match against India, the ICC said on Monday.
Fatima was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel after she gestured towards the pavilion while giving Indian opener Shafali Verma a send-off following her dismissal in Saturday’s match.
The article relates to the use of language, actions or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter following their dismissal during an international match.
In addition to the fine, one demerit point was added to Fatima’s disciplinary record, taking her tally to two. Her previous offence during the preceding 24-month period occurred in a match against Ireland in Dublin in August 2025.
The ICC said Fatima admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, avoiding the need for a formal hearing. The charge was brought by the on-field, third and fourth umpires.
Level 1 breaches carry a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points. If a player accumulates four or more demerit points within the stipulated period, they are converted into suspension points, potentially resulting in a ban.
The disciplinary action followed a one-sided contest in which India dismissed Pakistan for 55, their lowest-ever total in T20 internationals. Fatima had earlier claimed three Indian wickets, removing key batters, but India comfortably chased down the target.
Pakistan will face Hong Kong in Dubai on Monday night in their next Asia Cup fixture, with a victory potentially securing their place in the semi-finals.
