Dubai, September 19, 2026: India’s hopes of receiving the men’s and women’s Asia Cup trophies soon appear to have faded, with both trophies set to remain in Pakistan until the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) agrees to receive them from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi, according to a Pakistani sports channel, which cited sources on Saturday.
The sources said both trophies are currently in Pakistan and will remain with Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), until arrangements are made for their handover.
The dispute over the trophies dates back to last year, when the Indian men’s team refused to collect the ACC T20 Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi after defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in the final. The unusual situation led to a delay in the closing ceremony, which concluded without the champions receiving the silverware.
A similar situation unfolded following the final of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup last Sunday. India, which defeated defending champions Sri Lanka in the final to win the eight-team tournament, again declined to receive the trophy from Naqvi.
Earlier this week, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said he expected both Asia Cup trophies to eventually reach the board’s headquarters at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, but declined to give a specific timeline.
“Asia Cup trophies… we hope it will come one day,” Saikia said in Mumbai on Friday following the BCCI’s 95th Annual General Meeting.
“I will not give you a timeline, but I can assure you that both the trophies will come up and land up in this BCCI head office at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai,” he added.
A day after the Women’s T20 Asia Cup final, Saikia had described the decision not to accept the trophy from Naqvi as a “firm institutional decision”. He said the BCCI had informed the ACC in advance that the Indian team would not participate in the trophy presentation under the circumstances.
“Our position had been communicated to the ACC in advance that the Indian team would not participate in the trophy presentation under the circumstances,” Saikia told the Press Trust of India on Monday.
The development has left the two Asia Cup trophies in Pakistan, with their eventual transfer to the BCCI dependent on the outcome of the dispute over their presentation.
