Nagoya, September 28, 2026: Pakistan thrashed Oman 7-2 to qualify for the semi-finals of the Asian Games 2026 men’s hockey competition at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena on Monday.
Pakistan started the quarter-final strongly and led 2-1 at half-time before pulling away in the second half.
Rana Waheed scored a hat-trick, while Sufyan Khan netted twice. Ghazanfar Ali and Mohammad Imad also scored for Pakistan.
Pakistan finished second in Pool B with 12 points, behind Malaysia, who topped the group with 15 points.
The Green Shirts won four of their five pool matches, with their only defeat coming against Malaysia. They scored 28 goals in the pool stage and conceded eight.
Pakistan also advanced to the semi-finals of the Asian Games men’s cricket competition after persistent rain washed out their quarter-final against Hong Kong, China, in Nisshin, Japan.
The match was abandoned without a ball being bowled, with Pakistan progressing by virtue of their higher ranking. The result brought Hong Kong’s campaign at the Games to an end.
A few hours later, India also advanced to the semi-finals after rain prevented any play in their quarter-final against Afghanistan.
Pakistan had entered the cricket knockout stage directly alongside India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka by virtue of their rankings.
Hong Kong had secured a place in the quarter-finals after finishing second in Group B.
