Islamabad, September 30, 2026: Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Pakistan Han Sungho visited Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) on Wednesday to explore opportunities for strengthening academic, research and institutional cooperation between Pakistan and South Korea.
The ambassador was accompanied by Colonel Kim Jinwoo, Defence Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, and Donggil Oh, Country Director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Pakistan.
Vice Chancellor QAU Prof. Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal welcomed the delegation and briefed the visiting officials on the university’s academic programmes, research initiatives and institutional strengths.
He highlighted QAU’s diverse student body representing different regions of Pakistan and its academic and research capabilities in the natural, biological and social sciences.
The meeting discussed potential areas of collaboration, including scholarships, joint research projects and student and faculty exchange programmes, with both sides exploring ways to expand educational and institutional linkages between Pakistan and the Republic of Korea.
Ambassador Han welcomed the proposed initiatives and appreciated QAU’s diverse academic environment, particularly the presence of international students, including Korean students.
He expressed support for exploring further opportunities to strengthen educational cooperation and institutional ties between the two countries.
During the meeting, Chairperson Department of Computer Science Dr Ayyaz Hussain briefed the delegation on the department’s ongoing collaboration with KOICA for establishing a research centre dedicated to artificial intelligence and computing.
The proposed centre reflects opportunities for deeper Pakistan-Korea cooperation in emerging technologies, research and innovation.
Chairperson School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR) Dr Muhammad Nadeem Mirza and Director Student Affairs Dr Summar Iqbal Babar also attended the meeting.
The visit provided an opportunity to identify new avenues for Pakistan-Korea academic cooperation, particularly in higher education, research, emerging technologies and international student and faculty mobility.
