Lahore, October 20,2026: Switzerland’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Stéphane Rey, visited Lahore for the first time, engaging with leading Swiss companies operating in Pakistan and exploring opportunities to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation in technology, energy, industrial innovation and sustainable development.

During his visit, Ambassador Rey toured the Sheikhupura factory of Nestlé Pakistan, one of the largest Swiss companies operating in the country. He was welcomed by Managing Director Jason Avancena and his team, who briefed him on the company’s operations. The Ambassador visited the production facility and appreciated Nestlé’s quality standards, diverse product portfolio and sustainability initiatives.

The Swiss Ambassador also visited the Lahore office of ABB, a major Swiss technology company, where he met Hashim Ghaus, Country Holding Officer of ABB Pakistan, and his team. Discussions focused on the company’s contributions to technology, electrification and automation, as well as opportunities for cooperation in sustainable energy, industrial innovation and technological development. Ambassador Rey also appreciated ABB’s social initiatives in Pakistan.

Recognizing the significant potential of Pakistan’s textile industry, the Ambassador visited the booths of Swiss companies participating in IGATEX Pakistan 2026, the International Garment, Textile Machinery and Accessories Exhibition and Conference, held in Lahore. Swiss companies showcased their expertise, innovative solutions and technological capabilities, highlighting opportunities for further collaboration with Pakistan’s textile sector.

As part of his engagements, Ambassador Rey hosted a dinner in honour of foreign delegates representing the participating Swiss companies. Local business partners and chief executive officers of Swiss companies based in Lahore also attended the event with their spouses. The gathering provided an opportunity to strengthen business connections and explore new avenues for trade and investment between Pakistan and Switzerland.

Beyond his economic engagements, Ambassador Rey also experienced Lahore’s rich cultural heritage. He visited the Walled City, Lahore Museum and Shalimar Gardens, exploring the city’s historic architecture, artistic traditions and cultural legacy.

The visit concluded with a friendly meeting with renowned cultural personality Yousaf Salahuddin and his family at the historic Barood Khana Haveli. The family is widely recognized for its efforts to preserve and promote Lahore’s cultural heritage.

The Ambassador’s visit highlighted the important role of Swiss companies in Pakistan’s economy and underscored the potential for expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, advanced technology, sustainable energy and industrial development.

Ambassador Rey expressed appreciation for Lahore’s renowned hospitality, bringing his first visit to the historic city to a close.
