Islamabad, November 01,2026: President Asif Ali Zardari has extended warm congratulations to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the brotherly people of Algeria on the country’s National Day, marking the 72nd anniversary of the beginning of its historic liberation revolution.
In his message, issued on behalf of the people and Government of Pakistan and on his own behalf, the President paid tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the Algerian people, saying their struggle for freedom, dignity and independence remained an inspiration for all nations.
President Zardari recalled Pakistan’s steadfast support for Algeria during its struggle against colonial rule, highlighting Pakistan’s recognition of Algeria’s provisional government in 1958, before the country achieved independence, as a reflection of the deep solidarity between the two nations.
He said Pakistan-Algeria friendship also carried a cherished political and personal legacy. The friendship between Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Algerian leaders, including Ahmed Ben Bella and Houari Boumediene, played an important role in strengthening bilateral relations.
The President also recalled Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s visit to Algeria in July 1990 and her meeting with then President Chadli Bendjedid, describing it as a continuation of a relationship founded on solidarity and mutual respect. He said these ties represented both a national inheritance and a cherished family legacy.
President Zardari noted that this historic friendship continued to guide cooperation between Pakistan and Algeria at the United Nations and other international forums. He said both countries remained committed to the principles of the UN Charter, sovereign equality of states, the right to self-determination and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
Referring to their overlapping membership of the UN Security Council in 2025, he said cooperation between the two countries had demonstrated the importance of working together to advance shared objectives.
The President reaffirmed Pakistan and Algeria’s united support for the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and an independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. He also highlighted their shared commitment to dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts, protect civilians and achieve lasting peace in West Asia.
Expressing his desire to further strengthen bilateral relations, President Zardari said he looked forward to working with President Tebboune to expand cooperation in trade, investment, energy, education and culture.
He emphasised that the solidarity demonstrated by previous generations should be translated into greater opportunities for the peoples of both countries.
The President concluded by wishing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune good health and happiness, and the brotherly people of Algeria continued peace, progress and prosperity.
