Lahore, December 6, 2024: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme to provide relief to one lakh electricity consumers in the province. The scheme targets those using up to 200 units per month, offering free solar panels to reduce electricity costs. A total of 100,000 solar systems will be distributed over the next year. Consumers using up to 100 units will receive 550-watt systems, while those consuming up to 200 units will get 1100-watt systems.

The scheme, designed to promote renewable energy, aims to lower carbon emissions by 57,000 tons annually. Applications can be submitted online or via SMS, with a computerized balloting system to ensure fairness. The solar panels will be linked to consumers’ CNICs to prevent theft.

The initiative is also expected to reduce the financial burden on the federal government by cutting subsidies. A helpline will assist consumers with the registration and installation process.
