Islamabad, December 24, 2024: Pakistan’s Christian community is set to celebrate Christmas tomorrow (Wednesday) with traditional zeal and enthusiasm, joining billions of Christians worldwide in commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.

Special Christmas services and programs will be held in churches nationwide, including in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar. Residential colonies and churches have been adorned with twinkling lights, colorful decorations, and Christmas trees, creating a festive atmosphere. Wreaths and stars embellish storefronts, buzzing with last-minute shoppers on Christmas Eve.

The government has facilitated the celebrations by ensuring advance salaries and leaves for Christian employees, allowing them to fully partake in the festivities. Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of churches and Christian communities during the celebrations.

Christmas is both a religious and cultural event, observed annually on December 25. It marks the birth of Jesus Christ and is celebrated through various traditions, including:

Globally, Christmas traditions include Advent calendars, nativity plays, and the presence of figures like Santa Claus and Saint Nicholas, who delight children with gifts. The festival is also marked by cultural elements like holiday music, movies, and family gatherings.

In Pakistan, Christmas is a public holiday, allowing communities to come together in joy and harmony, exemplifying the nation’s commitment to fostering interfaith unity and respect.
