London – September 6, 2024 – Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has officially launched her career as a film producer with the release of the trailer for Last of the Sea Women, a documentary highlighting Korea’s legendary haenyeo divers. Directed by Sue Kim and produced under Yousafzai’s banner, Extracurricular Productions, the film is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8.

The documentary is produced by Sue Kim, Erika Kennair, and Yousafzai, with executive producers Nicole Stott, Emily Osborne, Harry Go, and Marissa Torres Ericson. It marks Yousafzai’s growing influence in Hollywood, as Last of the Sea Women is her first venture into film production. Yousafzai, who became the youngest Nobel Peace Prize recipient at 17, is increasingly exploring storytelling through film and television. She has previously lent her name to projects like Stranger at the Gate, which was shortlisted for an Oscar.
