Rawalpindi- September 6, 2024- Army Chief General Asim Munir has called for political differences to be addressed without descending into hatred, emphasizing that the nation will thwart any attempts to undermine national unity. He made these remarks during the Defence and Martyrs Day ceremony at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Friday.

The ceremony honored the sacrifices of the fallen heroes from the 1965 war, when Indian forces attempted a night attack on Pakistan but were repelled by the nation’s resolute defense. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, federal ministers, and other dignitaries attended the event.

General Munir praised the sacrifices made by martyrs in the fight against terrorism, which have contributed to national stability and security. He highlighted the deep bond between the armed forces and the nation, noting that the army has consistently received support from the public during natural disasters, foreign hostilities, and the ongoing war against terrorism.

The Army Chief stressed that this strong connection ensures the defeat of the country’s enemies and warned that those attempting to create discord between the military and the public would inevitably face defeat.

Regarding the newly launched Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, General Munir clarified that it is part of the National Action Plan (NAP) aimed at eradicating terrorism and extremism, rather than a new counter-terrorism initiative. He assured that the operation will not lead to the displacement of civilians.

General Munir also spoke about the ongoing battle against militancy, stating it will persist until the last terrorist is removed from Pakistan’s soil. He recognized the sacrifices of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and the brave people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, describing these efforts as a golden chapter in the nation’s history.

Significant achievements highlighted by General Munir include the Paigham-e-Pakistan strategy against extremist factions, improved management of the western border, the integration of tribal areas, and developmental measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He emphasized that unity is crucial to countering elements that spread hopelessness and chaos.

General Munir urged the nation to embrace harmony, tolerance, and unity in societal matters, and to protect minority rights as enshrined in the Constitution of Pakistan. He called for adherence to the principles of faith and unity, as advocated by Quaid-e-Azam, and stressed the vital role of the youth in national integrity and development.

Addressing the issue of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), General Munir asserted that the situation is not only a national concern but also a regional and global issue.
