Islamabad, January 19, 2025– Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani emphasized the critical role of youth in Pakistan’s future, highlighting the importance of equipping them with the necessary skills to address the country’s challenges. He delivered these remarks while addressing the 25th Convocation of Iqra University at the Jinnah Convention Centre.

“Education serves as the cornerstone of any nation’s development and prosperity,” said Gilani. “The youth are the future of Pakistan, and by channelling their talents in the right direction, the country can effectively overcome its challenges.”

Gilani stressed that education must adapt to the demands of a rapidly evolving global landscape, citing advancements in technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, and Quantum Computing. He urged universities to prepare students for the modern job market by fostering cognitive, socio-emotional, and digital learning skills.

“As we transition to a knowledge-based economy, Pakistan’s growth depends on building human and intellectual capital,” he said. “The influence in today’s world comes not from physical power or natural resources but from information, intelligence, and insight.”

Quoting futurist Alvin Toffler, he added, “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”

Gilani called for collaboration between the government, academia, and parliament to ensure excellence and innovation in education. He encouraged educational institutions to focus on critical thinking, innovation, and leadership to enable students to thrive in a competitive global environment.

He also highlighted past achievements of the Pakistan People’s Party in improving access to education and recalled initiatives like sending hundreds of students abroad on fully funded scholarships through Bahauddin Zakariya University.

Referencing Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s words, Gilani reminded the audience of the youth’s pivotal role in nation-building: “Pakistan is proud of her youth, particularly the students who have always been at the forefront in times of trial and need. You are the nation’s leaders of tomorrow, and you must fully equip yourselves with discipline, education, and training for the arduous tasks ahead.”

Gilani’s address concluded with a call for collective action to empower Pakistan’s youth, ensuring their contributions to the country’s economic and social progress.
