Islamabad, September 5, 2026: Capital Hospital, CDA Islamabad, conducted a comprehensive fire and safety demonstration and mock drill to strengthen emergency preparedness, improve coordination among response teams and ensure the safe evacuation of critically ill and vulnerable patients during a fire emergency.
The exercise was conducted on the directions of CDA Chairman Lt. (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf and under the supervision of Member Administration CDA Esfand Yar Baloch. Executive Director Capital Hospital Dr. Muhammad Naeem Taj led the hospital’s efforts in collaboration with Capital Emergency Services.
The exercise focused on strengthening the hospital’s command and control system and testing the effectiveness of dedicated response, triage, communication, evacuation, security and clinical support teams.
Hospital staff were given practical training on their respective responsibilities and coordination mechanisms to ensure a rapid and organised response in the event of a fire or other emergency.
Officials from Capital Emergency Services provided hands-on training in the use of fire extinguishers and fire blankets, following which hospital staff participated in practical demonstrations.
A real-time mock drill was subsequently conducted in critical areas of the hospital, including the operation theatre (OT), neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and Psychiatry Ward.
The drill simulated different emergency scenarios and tested procedures for the safe evacuation of ventilator-dependent, general and NICU patients under realistic conditions.
Particular emphasis was placed on rapid communication, effective triage, coordinated emergency response and the safe movement of patients who require specialised medical support.
Speaking on the occasion, Executive Director Capital Hospital Dr. Muhammad Naeem Taj highlighted the importance of a structured Fire and Life Safety Programme and regular mock exercises in preventing major fire-related disasters.
He appreciated the efforts of the Capital Fire Safety Department and thanked the CDA chairman and Member Administration for their continued support and cooperation. He also acknowledged the active participation and dedication of the hospital staff in making the exercise successful.
Dr. Sartaj Ali, Director Administration, and Dr. Mobeen Kausar, Deputy Director (Medical-I), Capital Hospital, prepared the protocols for disaster management training, while officials from Capital Emergency Services, including Mr. Iqbal and Mr. Tahir, delivered a briefing on the hospital’s fire safety profile.
The exercise was conducted under the overall guidance of CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf and Member Administration Esfand Yar Baloch, whose support was described as instrumental in its successful implementation.
The mock drill reaffirmed Capital Hospital’s commitment to strengthening fire and life safety standards, enhancing emergency response capacity and protecting patients, particularly those who are critically ill or otherwise vulnerable.
The hospital administration said such exercises would help ensure that medical and support staff remain prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to emergency situations.
