Dubai, January 27, 2025: India’s premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has been crowned the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year for 2024, following a remarkable return to form in the five-day format.

The 31-year-old paceman made a triumphant comeback to Test cricket in late 2023 after a prolonged absence due to a back injury. Bumrah dominated the Test arena in 2024, claiming an extraordinary 71 wickets—well ahead of England’s Gus Atkinson, who secured 52 wickets in 11 matches. Bumrah’s stunning bowling average of 14.92 and an impressive strike rate of 30.1 underscored his unmatched impact throughout the year.

“Test cricket has always been a format I hold close to my heart, and to be recognised on this platform is truly special,” Bumrah said. “This award is not just a reflection of my individual efforts but also of the unwavering support of my teammates, coaches, and fans who continue to believe in and inspire me every day. Representing India is a privilege I deeply cherish, and knowing my efforts bring smiles to people around the world makes this journey even more special.”

Bumrah edged out England batsmen Harry Brook and Joe Root, as well as Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis, to clinch the prestigious honor.

It was a memorable evening for Indian cricket, as Smriti Mandhana was named the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year for the second time, further highlighting India’s dominance in the global cricketing landscape.

Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai added another feather to his cap by winning the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award, showcasing his all-around brilliance on the international stage.
