Islamabad, January 29, 2025: Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir, the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), has been removed from his position due to unsatisfactory performance in the investigation of the Greece boat tragedy, which led to the loss of several Pakistani lives.

The Establishment Division issued a notification on Wednesday confirming that Jahangir has been reassigned as Officer on Special Duty (OSD). This decision was made following instructions from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of a detailed report on the tragedy and the delay in other investigations under Jahangir’s leadership.

The Prime Minister’s frustration with the slow progress of the Greece boat tragedy probe was a significant factor in the decision. The boat tragedy, which claimed the lives of more than 40 Pakistani nationals, had sparked widespread concern and demanded urgent action, which the government felt was not forthcoming.
