Karachi, September 10, 2024 – Pakistani actress Momal Sheikh recently reflected on the idea that, much like the Kapoor family in Bollywood, her family could be considered “the Sheikhs of Lollywood.”
Momal, who made her acting debut in Sonam Kapoor’s 2016 film Happy Bhag Jayegi, compared her family’s significant influence in Pakistan’s entertainment industry to that of the renowned Kapoor family in Bollywood. In a recent interview, she highlighted how several members of her family have achieved fame and success, solidifying their presence in the industry.
“I suppose if you include the families of my uncles Behroze Sabzwari and Saleem Sheikh, we are like the Kapoors of Pakistan. We are the Sheikhs, and Behroze uncle is a Sabzwari. He’s my phuppa (uncle) because he’s married to Safeena phuppo (aunt), my father’s sister. Saleem chacha (uncle) and baba (my father) are brothers, and just like the Kapoors, we are the Sheikh family of Lollywood,” she said.
However, Momal noted that her father and brother “don’t behave like the Kapoors,” emphasizing that there is no nepotism in her career. They don’t make calls on her behalf for work. While she isn’t strictly against the idea of being self-made, she shared that her father insisted she find her own way in the industry.
