Dubai, February 22, 2025: Pakistan’s interim head coach Aqib Javed has provided insights into the team’s strategy ahead of their highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against India, set to take place tomorrow at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Aqib emphasized the importance of a well-balanced squad, suggesting that no major changes would be made to the playing XI.
“The Pakistan team is well-balanced, and you won’t see any drastic changes in the lineup,” he stated.
He also highlighted the team’s bowling combination, confirming the inclusion of a specialist spinner alongside Khushdil Shah and Agha Salman as additional spin options.
“We have to maintain balance—it’s not like we can field five spinners. The pitches here don’t offer excessive turn, so we need a mix of pacers and spinners,” Aqib explained.
Addressing the psychological aspect of a high-stakes match, Aqib stressed the need for a calm and fearless approach, particularly for younger players.
“The environment is crucial. If young players are told that pressure exists but that it’s just another match—where they should focus on showcasing their talent rather than worrying about the result—it makes a difference,” he said.
He also urged the team to play with confidence and resilience, downplaying the fear of losing.
“There’s always a fear—what if we lose? But nothing happens. Play with courage, and in eight hours, the result will be clear,” he remarked.
Reflecting on the significance of the Pakistan-India rivalry, Aqib acknowledged the unique excitement surrounding the fixture, regardless of past results.
“Whether we’ve won ten matches or lost six, the thrill of a Pakistan-India match remains the same,” he stated.
When asked whether Pakistan is adapting to modern-day cricket in the T20 era, Aqib emphasized the importance of assessing conditions and adjusting accordingly.
“It’s all about mindset—how you read the conditions, the pitch, and the crowd. Are they similar to what we have in Pakistan, or are they different? We will play accordingly,” he concluded.
