Bannu, March 6, 2025: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir visited Bannu on Thursday, a day after security forces successfully repelled a terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment. During his visit, General Munir strongly condemned the assault, holding Afghan-based militant groups responsible for orchestrating the attack and using foreign weapons to target Pakistan, according to the military’s media wing.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief asserted that Afghanistan continues to serve as a sanctuary for terrorists, vowing to bring both the perpetrators and their facilitators to justice. He received a detailed briefing on the ongoing security operations and the overall situation in the region.
General Munir also visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Bannu, where he met injured soldiers and lauded their resilience and unwavering dedication. He commended the troops for their swift and decisive action in neutralizing the attackers, reaffirming the Pakistan Army’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and safeguarding the nation.
Expressing deep condolences to the families of civilians who lost their lives in the attack, the COAS condemned the brutal targeting of women, children, and the elderly. He emphasized that such atrocities reveal the true nature of the Khwarij militants, labeling them as enemies of Islam. Stressing the importance of national unity, he urged the public to stand firm against terrorism.
“The Armed Forces will spare no effort in ensuring the safety and security of the people of Pakistan,” General Munir assured.
He also underscored the critical role of the local community in counterterrorism efforts, reaffirming that the fight against militant groups and their facilitators would continue until its logical conclusion. He vowed that no entity would be allowed to disrupt Pakistan’s peace and stability.
