Islamabad, March 24, 2025: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday emphasized that Pakistan’s relationship with the United States remains a key pillar of its foreign policy, highlighting the longstanding and broad-based partnership between the two nations.
“Our bilateral relations are on an upward trajectory, and it is crucial to sustain this positive momentum,” Gilani stated during his meeting with Natalie Baker, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy, at the Parliament House.
Stressing mutual trust, respect, and shared interests as the foundation of Pakistan-US ties, Gilani called for enhanced cooperation in political, parliamentary, business, educational, and cultural exchanges. He also encouraged US companies to explore new investment opportunities in Pakistan, noting that the US remains Pakistan’s largest export market.
“We aim to diversify our trade relationship, with a special focus on strengthening business cooperation,” he added.
On regional dynamics, Gilani reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to fostering constructive relations with neighboring countries, despite existing challenges. He recalled his tenure as Prime Minister, citing his 2008 official visit to the US and engagements with former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, which helped solidify bilateral ties.
Recognizing the US as a vital economic and development partner, he urged greater collaboration in key areas such as climate change mitigation, energy transition, water management, climate-smart agriculture, and waste management.
Gilani also underscored the significance of the Pakistan-US defense partnership, particularly Pakistan’s role in the global fight against terrorism. “We must continue to explore new avenues for trade and investment, leveraging our strengths to drive economic growth and innovation,” he remarked.
Welcoming the new US administration under President Donald Trump, Gilani expressed optimism for further strengthening of bilateral ties. He also acknowledged US assistance in Pakistan’s flood relief and humanitarian efforts.
Additionally, he highlighted the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in the US and stressed the importance of educational exchanges in fostering mutual understanding.
Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, in response, reaffirmed the US’s recognition of Pakistan as an important partner. She conveyed President Trump’s appreciation for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts and lauded Gilani’s leadership in promoting peace and stability.
Baker emphasized the need for deeper trade and economic engagement and extended her best wishes to Chairman Senate Gilani, expressing hope for continued diplomatic cooperation between both nations.
