Peshawar, April 3, 2025: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has installed a signboard renaming Arbab Niaz Stadium as Imran Khan Cricket Stadium Peshawar, sparking controversy.
Upon learning about the move, former Prime Minister Imran Khan directed the provincial authorities to reverse the decision and retain the stadium’s original name. However, the government refused to comply, instead placing the new name board without officially changing the stadium’s title.
The renaming comes amid political tensions, as Imran Khan remains a central figure in Pakistan’s cricket and political landscape.
Meanwhile, a Pakistan Super League (PSL) exhibition match, originally scheduled to take place at Peshawar Stadium on April 8, has now been postponed, though no official reason has been provided.
