Islamabad, December 6, 2024: The government is expected to present the amended Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Bill in the National Assembly (NA) session scheduled for December 10. The amendments aim to address concerns over anti-state propaganda and the spread of misinformation on social media.
Recently, seven individuals, including Muhammad Sohail and Muhammad Junaid, were charged for allegedly spreading false narratives via platforms like WhatsApp and X (formerly Twitter). Authorities are intensifying efforts to apprehend them.
The amendments propose penalties, including imprisonment and fines, for content targeting national institutions or spreading fear. Content violating these rules will also be removed from platforms in Pakistan.
