New Delhi, December 26, 2024: Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, who won hearts during the COVID-19 pandemic for helping migrant workers, recently revealed that he was offered significant political positions, including Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and a seat in the Rajya Sabha. However, he declined all these offers.
“I was offered the position of Chief Minister. When I refused, they suggested I become Deputy Chief Minister. These were influential figures who also offered me a seat in Rajya Sabha, telling me I wouldn’t have to fight for anything in politics,” Sood shared in an interview with Humans of Bombay.
He acknowledged that being approached by such prominent people was exciting and humbling, saying, “It’s an exciting phase when powerful people want to meet you and encourage you to make a difference in the world.”
However, the actor made it clear that he wants to stay out of politics, valuing his freedom over political ambition. “People join politics for two reasons: to earn money or to gain power. I’m not interested in either. If it’s about helping people, I’m already doing that. I don’t need to ask anyone for that right now. If I want to help someone, I do it on my own. I fear becoming accountable to someone else, and that scares me. I fear losing my freedom,” he explained.
Sood also reflected on the challenges that come with fame. “As you gain popularity, you rise in life. But at higher altitudes, oxygen levels are lower. It’s not just about rising, but about how long you can sustain yourself up there,” he added.
The actor shared that many people suggested that joining politics would bring him luxuries such as a house in Delhi, high security, and a government position. “That sounds great, and I like hearing it. But I’m not ready for that right now. Maybe a few years down the line, I might feel differently. Never say never… but for now, there’s still an actor-director inside me. I’m not against politics, and I respect politicians. I have friends who are doing great work,” he concluded.
