Islamabad, January 11, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged Muslim countries to prioritise girls’ education, describing it as one of the most pressing challenges of the modern era.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the two-day international conference, titled “Girls’ Education in Muslim Societies: Challenges and Opportunities,” the prime minister stressed the need for large-scale initiatives to address the issue.
The conference, held in Islamabad, brought together ministers, dignitaries, and representatives from 47 countries, as well as various international organisations.
PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing girls’ education, pledging to mobilise resources and implement necessary measures to improve educational opportunities for girls, particularly in underprivileged areas. He underscored that education is fundamental for societal progress and called for collaborative efforts to tackle barriers to access.
The premier highlighted the significance of education in Islam, referencing the inspiring contributions of historical figures like Hazrat Khadija and Fatima Jinnah, along with Benazir Bhutto, the first female prime minister of the Islamic world. He also praised Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai as a symbol of resilience and determination, commending her presence at the event.
