Gaza, January 12, 2025: At least 70 children have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza over the past five days, the Palestinian enclave’s civil defense service reported on Sunday.
The agency did not disclose the ages of the victims but stated that the deaths occurred in assaults targeting multiple areas across the region.
Palestinian children in Gaza continue to endure immense suffering amidst Israel’s prolonged war on the territory, now in its 16th month.
“The new year has brought further death and hardship from ongoing violence, deprivation, and exposure to cold,” UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said on January 8.
Meanwhile, the Gazan Health Ministry confirmed that at least 28 more Palestinians were killed in recent Israeli strikes, increasing the death toll since October 2023 to 46,565. Over 109,660 people have been injured in the ongoing conflict.
“Israeli forces killed 28 people and injured 89 others in two family-targeted massacres within the last 24 hours,” the ministry added. Rescue efforts have been severely hampered, with many victims still trapped under rubble or in inaccessible areas.
The conflict has persisted since October 7, 2023, following a cross-border incursion by Hamas, escalating into sustained Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip.
