Jerusalem, January 18,2025: Israel’s Ministry of Justice has released a list of Palestinian prisoners set to be freed under the Gaza ceasefire agreement. The list comprises 735 Palestinian detainees, including notable Fatah leaders Marwan Barghouti and Zakaria Zubeidi.
Israeli media reported that the list includes prisoners serving life sentences, who will now be released in exchange for 33 Israeli captives as part of the ceasefire deal.
In the first phase of the agreement, 1,904 Palestinian prisoners will be freed. Previously, Israel also shared images of the 33 Israelis who were released from Hamas captivity.
On Wednesday, Qatar’s Prime Minister announced the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The deal’s first phase is set to begin on January 19. The six-week ceasefire will be implemented in three phases, including prisoner exchanges and negotiations for a permanent end to hostilities.
In the second phase, Hamas will release members of Israeli forces it holds captive, and Israeli troops will withdraw from public areas in Gaza. The third phase will see the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the commencement of Gaza’s reconstruction efforts.
