Islamabad, January 22, 2025: The PTI-led opposition staged a noisy protest during the National Assembly session on Wednesday, disrupting proceedings after Opposition Leader Omar Ayub was denied the floor during the question hour.
The protest began when NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq refused Omar Ayub’s request for a point of order. “It was decided in the business advisory committee that points of order will not be entertained during the question hour,” the speaker clarified.
Following this, opposition members chanted slogans, tore up copies of the agenda items, and staged a walkout in protest.
Adding to the disruptions, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of Interior Ministry officials from the gallery during the question hour, describing it as an unacceptable lapse.
Joint Session Scheduled for January 24
Meanwhile, it was confirmed that a joint session of Parliament is likely to be held on Friday, January 24, to approve key legislations that failed to pass in both houses.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formally advised President Asif Ali Zardari to summon the joint session. According to parliamentary sources, the government has instructed members of both the National Assembly and Senate to remain in Islamabad and ensure their presence during the joint session.
The joint session is expected to address critical legislative matters amidst heightened political tensions between the government and the opposition.
