Kurram, January 31, 2025: Upper Kurram Assistant Commissioner Saeed Manan Khan and three policemen were injured in a shooting incident on Friday in the Boshehra area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police reported.
The attack occurred while the assistant commissioner was on a peace mission, accompanied by police officers.
The incident comes amid ongoing violence in the region, following a deadly attack in November on a convoy in Lower Kurram’s Bagan area that claimed over 40 lives. Subsequent clashes linked to longstanding land disputes have resulted in at least 130 additional casualties.
Security instability in Upper Kurram has led to the prolonged closure of a key road, causing severe shortages of essential goods and medicines in Parachinar.
Despite a ceasefire agreement signed on January 1 between rival tribes, recent attacks on both a government and an aid convoy have further undermined the fragile peace.
In response to the escalating violence, authorities have launched a limited counter-terrorism operation in Lower Kurram and ordered the establishment of temporary camps, anticipating the displacement of over 1,000 families.
