Lahore, February 6, 2025: Pakistan is on the brink of another FIFA suspension due to an ongoing deadlock between the global football governing body and the Pakistan Football Federation’s (PFF) newly elected Congress, warned PFF Normalisation Committee Chairman Haroon Malik.
Briefing the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), Malik cautioned that a conditional suspension could lead to Pakistan’s exclusion from international football and the halt of FIFA’s financial assistance to the federation.
“FIFA wants amendments to the PFF Constitution to align it with international standards. However, a majority of the newly elected PFF Congress members have not accepted FIFA’s proposed changes,” Malik explained.
He also detailed the election process within the PFF, stating that elections have been completed at all levels, with the elected Congress members set to oversee the next phase.
Despite the challenges, Malik highlighted a major milestone—Pakistan’s participation in the 2023 Olympic qualifiers, where the team progressed to the second round for the first time. The Standing Committee acknowledged the PFF’s efforts in promoting football at the Olympic level.
