Narowal, February 18, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched a fresh attack on former Prime Minister Imran Khan, claiming that while “good news is coming from everywhere,” only bad news emerges from Adiala Jail.
Addressing a rally in Narowal, she referred to letters and pleas from the prison, alleging they were desperate attempts to secure Khan’s release.
Maryam Nawaz credited her father, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, for steering Pakistan out of economic hardship and pledged to continue working towards the prosperity of Punjab.
“Under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, Pakistan has overcome its challenges. We will work day and night to transform the lives of the people of Punjab,” she asserted.
She also claimed that Punjab now has the lowest inflation rate in the country, attributing it to her government’s economic policies.
The Punjab CM contrasted the country’s economic performance under PML-N and PTI, stating that Pakistan’s economy thrived under Nawaz Sharif, whereas under Imran Khan’s tenure, the stock market crashed, inflation soared, and terrorism resurfaced.
“During PTI’s rule, inflation skyrocketed to 38%, and the stock market plunged. But today, inflation has dropped to 5%, and the economy is once again on the path to stability,” she claimed.
Highlighting her government’s achievements, she pointed to Punjab’s visible transformation over the past year.
“In just one year, we have made Punjab cleaner and more affordable. The price of bread has dropped from Rs 25 to Rs 12-13,” she noted.
Maryam Nawaz outlined various welfare measures, including providing loans for low-income families to build homes, Kisan Cards for farmers, and Himmat Cards for people with disabilities.
Taking a swipe at the previous PTI government, she questioned their contributions to youth development. In contrast, she claimed her administration had expanded scholarships to 50,000 and planned to distribute 100,000 laptops.
“We are not just making promises—we are delivering. We are investing in the youth with scholarships and laptops to secure their future,” she remarked.
Without directly naming Imran Khan, she criticized PTI’s tenure, accusing it of bringing Pakistan to the brink of economic default and failing to curb terrorism.
“The PTI government left the country in turmoil. Terrorism returned under their rule. Now, all we hear from Adiala Jail is bad news,” she said, referencing Khan’s imprisonment.
She added that, contrary to opposition claims, PML-N had successfully managed the country’s affairs and was leading it towards progress.
“Our opponents believed that if PML-N came into power, we would fail. But today, we are proving them wrong. Pakistan is back on the path to development,” she declared.
The Punjab CM also highlighted infrastructure projects, including ongoing highway construction in Narowal, and reaffirmed her commitment to improving the province’s economic and social landscape.
“We are not waiting for five years to showcase our performance. I stand before you today with the results of just one year’s hard work,” she concluded.
