Islamabad, February 20, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to review measures aimed at increasing Pakistan’s exports and directed the formulation of a comprehensive strategy to achieve the $60 billion export target over the next five years. The prime minister emphasized the need for sustainable tariff reforms to drive economic progress and enhance exports. He instructed his economic team to simplify and lower tariffs to support industrial growth and improve ease of business.
Shehbaz stressed the importance of boosting production capacity through structural reforms in the tariff system. He highlighted services, information technology, and agriculture as priority sectors for increasing export volume.
He also linked export-driven economic progress to his “Uraan Pakistan” vision, calling for urgent reforms in the governance of the Export Development Fund to accelerate industrial development.
During the meeting, officials briefed the prime minister on ongoing initiatives to enhance exports, including gradual tariff reduction over the past two years to support trade, annual international exhibitions hosted in Pakistan to promote exports, ongoing consultations on the Strategic Trade Policy Framework 2025-30 with key stakeholders, final-stage preparations for Pakistan’s E-commerce Policy, set to be presented to the cabinet next month and establishment of a National Compliance Center to align Pakistani products with international standards and offer training programs for exporters.
The meeting was attended by Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Arshad Mehmood Langrial, and other senior officials from relevant departments.
