Islamabad, February 25, 2025: European ambassadors in Islamabad gathered to mark three years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, reaffirming their solidarity with the Ukrainian people. The event, titled “Three Years of Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom”, was organized by the Polish Embassy, with Ambassador Maciej Pisarski hosting European envoys in a united show of support.
The gathering was attended by key diplomats, including British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, EU Deputy Head of Delegation Philipp Oliver Gross, French Ambassador Nicolas Galey, German Ambassador Alfred Grannas, Czech Ambassador Ladislav Steinhübel, and Finnish Ambassador Hannu Ripatti, alongside other EU representatives and officials.
The event opened with the screening of “Culture vs. War”, a documentary highlighting the war’s devastating impact on Ukraine’s cultural heritage.
Speaking at the event, Polish Ambassador Maciej Pisarski underscored the far-reaching consequences of Russia’s aggression, stating, “As this war enters its third year, the world continues to feel its impact—not just in security terms, but also in food and energy shortages affecting millions globally.” He reiterated the EU’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, adding, “Ukraine is fighting to restore its territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders, and we stand firmly with them.”
Pisarski further emphasized that Ukraine’s sovereignty and the will of its people are “non-negotiable”, vowing that the EU “will never recognize occupied Ukrainian territories as part of Russia.”
Ukrainian Ambassador Markian Chuchuk reflected on the immense toll of the conflict, stating, “Over the past three years, countless lives have been lost—soldiers, civilians, women, and children alike. Families have been torn apart, communities destroyed, and approximately 15 million Ukrainians have been displaced.” He cited estimates suggesting that more than one million military personnel from both sides have been killed or wounded.
Chuchuk also accused Russia of using “modern technologies and sophisticated tools to flood the world with propaganda and disinformation,” warning that information warfare remains a critical aspect of the conflict.
In a symbolic display of unity, the European envoys gathered on stage for a collective “EU family photo”, reinforcing their shared commitment to standing with Ukraine in its struggle for freedom and territorial integrity.
