Islamabad, March 4, 2025: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar on Tuesday criticized the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for delaying its decision on reserved seats, accusing the commission of failing to fulfill its constitutional responsibility.
Speaking to the media outside the ECP office, Gohar expressed frustration over the halted order for reserved seats, despite the Supreme Court ruling in PTI’s favor. He urged the commission to immediately issue the notification, stating, “Reserved seats are our right and should be allocated to us.”
Gohar also raised concerns over the incomplete Senate election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stressing that it must be conducted under all circumstances. He criticized the ECP’s delay in issuing PTI’s intra-party election certificate, noting that other political parties that held their elections after PTI had already received their certificates.
The PTI chairman pointed out that the chief election commissioner, member Punjab, and member Balochistan had retired on January 25, and as per the Constitution, their replacements should be appointed within 45 days.
He urged the formation of a parliamentary committee to oversee the appointments and revealed that PTI had contacted the National Assembly Speaker regarding the issue. However, he lamented that the government had yet to initiate the process.
“The process must be completed within the constitutional timeframe,” Gohar stressed, warning against further delays.
