Peshawar, March 4, 2025: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Saif has accused the government of denying former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, food for Sehri and Iftar while they observe Ramadan fasts in jail.
Speaking on Tuesday, Saif—an adviser to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister— alleged that the couple was being subjected to inhumane treatment and that the restriction on meetings with the PTI founder was a “blatant violation” of court orders. He further accused the government of resorting to “petty tactics” to pressure PTI leaders, causing distress among party workers and supporters.
The PTI leadership has previously claimed that Imran Khan is being held in solitary confinement in Adiala Jail’s death cell and is being denied meetings with legal counsel and family members despite court orders. PTI’s Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas asserted that the authorities had ignored a court ruling allowing six individuals to meet Khan. “Even Bushra Bibi has been denied meetings with him twice without any explanation,” Waqas said.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari dismissed PTI’s claims as “completely false and baseless,” stating that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are receiving their regular meals in jail.
“Someone sitting in Peshawar had a dream that their leader was being deprived of food,” she mocked, adding that Khan is being provided meat, vegetables, lentils, and beetroot juice three times a week, along with coffee, boiled eggs, and dry fruits. She also claimed that Bushra Bibi is given whatever food she requests.
Bukhari further questioned how “a person who wakes up at noon can observe fasting”, accusing PTI of fabricating stories for sympathy. She revealed that a medical team from PIMS Hospital conducted a thorough 30-minute examination of Khan and declared him completely healthy.
“Whenever the ‘Fitna Party’ runs out of excuses, they resort to playing the victim and sympathy cards,” she concluded.
