Indore, March 10, 2025: Violent clashes broke out in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday night following celebrations of India’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy final. The unrest, marked by stone-pelting, arson, and vandalism, resulted in vehicles being torched and businesses damaged.

The clashes erupted during a victory rally by cricket fans in Mhow, a town about 25 km from Indore. The situation escalated when some participants allegedly lit firecrackers outside the Jama Masjid, triggering tensions between two groups. What began as a verbal confrontation soon spiraled into stone-pelting and arson, with motorcycles set ablaze and a local shop torched.

Videos from the scene showed damaged vehicles, broken storefronts, and riot police in action as they worked to contain the violence.

Law enforcement swiftly intervened, using tear gas and baton charges to disperse the rioters. A heavy police presence has since been deployed to prevent further escalation.

At least three people were injured, though the exact number remains unclear while 13 individuals have been arrested, with authorities reviewing footage to identify more suspects.

“We are investigating the cause of the clashes and taking strict action against those responsible,” said Senior Police Officer Hitika Vasal. “Patrols are active in sensitive areas, and the situation is under control.”

India’s thrilling victory over New Zealand by four wickets in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy final sparked nationwide celebrations. Fans across the country flooded the streets, waving flags and dancing in joy. However, the Mhow incident cast a shadow over the celebrations, leading to concerns over public safety.

The Indore district police have launched a full-scale investigation into the clashes, including the handling of the victory rally and the events leading up to the violence.

“We are ensuring that those responsible are held accountable,” said Indore District Collector Ashish Singh.

Authorities are also reviewing security measures to prevent future communal tensions during large-scale celebrations.
