Islamabad Police issue traffic plan for Pakistan Day parade

Islamabad, March 22, 2025: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have announced a comprehensive traffic plan in connection with Pakistan Day celebrations on March 23, including route restrictions for heavy vehicles and road closures in the federal capital.

Due to the Pakistan Day military parade, Islamabad police have said that heavy vehicles will be prohibited from entering Islamabad from midnight on March 22 until 3 PM on March 23. Srinagar Highway will be closed from 6 AM to 1 PM between Seventh Avenue and Kudiyanwala Chowk on Sunday while commuters heading towards Bhara Kahu should take alternative routes via Seventh Avenue, Pak-China Road, Rawal Dam Chowk, Kashmir Chowk, and Club Road.

Meanwhile Peshawar to Lahore traffic will Use Taxila Motorway and Fateh Jang Motorway via Tarnol Phatak, Lahore GT Road to Islamabad/Rawalpindi traffic will use Chak Beli Road and Chakri Motorway. Peshawar to Rawat traffic (via GT Road) will use Taxila Motorway, Chakri, Chak Beli Road, and Rawat and Lahore GT Road to Peshawar traffic will use Rawat, Chak Beli Road, Chakri, and Taxila Motorway.

Islamabad Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Zeeshan Haider assured that ITP personnel will be stationed at key points to assist commuters. He said that citizens can contact the ITP helpline at 1915 for traffic updates and assistance while FM 92.4 will provide live traffic updates throughout the day.

March 23 marks the anniversary of the Lahore Resolution (1940), which laid the foundation for a separate homeland for Muslims of South Asia. The day is commemorated with special ceremonies nationwide as the day begins with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and a 21-gun salute in provincial capitals, special prayers are offered at mosques for the country’s prosperity and unity, the national flag is hoisted at key government buildings, change of guard ceremonies take place at the mausoleums of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi and Dr. Allama Iqbal in Lahore.
