New York, April 4, 2025: Pakistan has called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take decisive and practical steps to halt Israel’s continued aggression in Gaza.

Speaking at a UNSC meeting on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, described Israel’s actions as a clear violation of the UN Charter, international law, and a standing ceasefire agreement with Hamas.

The session was convened by Algeria, with support from Pakistan, China, Somalia, and Russia.

Ambassador Ahmad emphasized that the escalating violence in Palestine reflects a grave erosion of humanitarian values and urged the international community not to remain passive.

“We cannot be part of a body that remains a mere spectator and does nothing. We refuse to be part of this moral bankruptcy,” he asserted.

He highlighted that over 1,100 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire agreement and stressed the need for the UNSC to uphold its resolutions to maintain global credibility and justice.

Separately, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan issued a statement condemning the ongoing Israeli military offensive, describing it as indiscriminate violence that has resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent Palestinians, including women, children, medical personnel, and humanitarian workers.

Khan denounced Israel’s seizure of the Morag Corridor and further annexation of Palestinian land, calling it an attempt to establish illegal security corridors. He said such actions, along with Israel’s efforts to forcibly displace Palestinians, amount to war crimes under international law.

The spokesperson also expressed deep concern over the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque Complex by Israeli forces during Eid-ul-Fitr, labeling it a sacrilegious and provocative act that violates the sanctity of one of Islam’s holiest sites and threatens to inflame regional tensions further.

Pakistan reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people and called for immediate international intervention to halt Israeli aggression and uphold the principles of justice and human rights.
