Karachi, April 10, 2025: In a stunning display of grit, determination, and skill, Pakistan’s rising squash sensation Noor Zaman made history on Thursday by winning the 2025 U-23 World Squash Championship, becoming the first Pakistani to claim the prestigious title.

The 21-year-old from Peshawar staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Egypt’s Kareem El Torkey 3-2 in a thrilling final held at the DHA Creek Club in Karachi. The final scoreline — 11-6, 9-11, 4-11, 11-9, 11-7 — reflected the intensity of the contest that kept the packed venue on edge throughout the match.

After a strong start, Zaman found himself trailing 1-2 as El Torkey took control with his aggressive style, clinching the second and third games. But Zaman, known for his composure under pressure, rallied magnificently in the fourth, edging it 11-9, before sealing the match with a commanding 11-7 performance in the decider.

The victory capped a stellar tournament run for Zaman, who impressed throughout the championship with his tactical brilliance and physical endurance. He advanced to the final by defeating top competitors including France’s Melvil Scianimanico, Poland’s Jakub Pytlowany, and Kuwait’s Hussain Alzaatari.

His opponent, El Torkey, also had a memorable campaign, notably ousting top seed Ibrahim Elkabbani in the semi-final. Despite his early momentum in the final, he could not withstand Zaman’s resilience and strategic adjustments in the closing stages.

“This win is for Pakistan,” an emotional Noor Zaman said after lifting the trophy. “The support I’ve received throughout this journey has been incredible. It pushed me to give everything I had. I’m proud to carry forward our squash legacy.”

Zaman’s triumph is being hailed as a milestone for Pakistani squash, evoking memories of the country’s golden era dominated by legends Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan. His breakthrough win is expected to inspire a new generation of players and rekindle national interest in a sport that once brought Pakistan global acclaim.

More than just a personal triumph, Zaman’s win symbolizes a potential resurgence of Pakistan’s dominance in international squash and serves as a proud moment for the nation.

With this historic title under his belt, Noor Zaman now stands as one of the brightest young stars in world squash — and a beacon of hope for the future of the game in Pakistan.
