Lahore, April 14, 2025: A stellar bowling performance led by Fatima Sana and a composed half-century from Sidra Amin guided Pakistan to a commanding 65-run win over the West Indies in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier on Monday.
Defending a modest total of 192, Pakistan bundled out the West Indies for just 126 in 39.2 overs, clinching their third win in the six-team tournament.
The West Indies run chase faltered early, with their top order collapsing inside the powerplay at 29 runs. Skipper Hayley Matthews was trapped lbw by Fatima Sana, while Zaida James and Shemaine Campbelle fell to mix-ups resulting in run-outs — deepening the batting side’s early woes.
Despite a gritty 22-run knock from Aaliyah Alleyne, the Caribbean side struggled to build partnerships, as Pakistani bowlers continued to strike at regular intervals. The West Indies ultimately fell well short of the target, suffering their second defeat of the tournament and putting their qualification hopes in jeopardy with only two matches remaining.
Fatima Sana was the standout performer for Pakistan, claiming 3 for 16 in her seven-over spell. Nashra Sandhu and Rameen Shamim also impressed, chipping in with two wickets each.
Earlier, Sidra Amin anchored Pakistan’s innings with a steady half-century, laying the foundation for a defendable total. Although Pakistan’s batting lineup didn’t fully capitalize on starts, their bowlers ensured the target was more than sufficient.
The ongoing qualifier, being held in Lahore at the Gaddafi Stadium and LCCA Ground, features a round-robin format among six teams: Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, and Thailand. The top two sides will qualify for the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup set to take place later this year in India.
