Patna, April 30, 2025: Amid a surge in reported attacks on Muslims and Kashmiris across India, a journalist and his brother were violently assaulted by a mob in Bihar allegedly for wearing traditional attire.

According to Kashmir Media Service, journalist Danish and his brother were returning home after work when they were intercepted and attacked by a group of 20 to 25 men. “They surrounded us and began beating us simply because my brother was wearing a kurta-pyjama,” Danish said, adding that they were struck on the head and neck during the assault.

A disturbing video showing both men drenched in blood has circulated widely on social media, prompting widespread condemnation. As of now, it remains unclear whether a police complaint has been filed.

The incident comes amid a wave of targeted violence and hate speech against Muslims following the recent Pahalgam attack. Reports have emerged from various parts of the country detailing mob attacks, vandalism of Muslim-owned shops, denial of medical treatment to Muslim patients, and explicit calls for violence—particularly against Kashmiri women—by right-wing supporters and affiliated groups.

Human rights organisations and civil society members have expressed concern over the deteriorating communal climate, calling for immediate government action to prevent further escalation.
