Islamabad, May 15, 2025: The federal government has officially declared Friday, May 16, as Youm-e-Tashakur (Day of Gratitude) to commemorate the successful culmination of Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, a landmark military response that followed recent hostilities with India.

The day is dedicated to honouring both the armed forces and the people of Pakistan for what officials have described as a “historic victory in the battle for truth.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will preside over the central ceremony in Islamabad as chief guest, joined by the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

According to official sources, nationwide commemorations will begin with Quran recitations and special prayers in mosques across the country for the martyrs and the sovereignty of Pakistan.

Key highlights of the day’s events include 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in each of the four provincial capitals, ceremonial changing of the guards at the mausoleums of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi and Allama Iqbal in Lahore, flag-hoisting ceremonies in Islamabad and all provincial capitals, wreath-laying ceremonies at memorials dedicated to the martyrs of Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos and special tributes to the families of fallen soldiers through official visits and commemorative events.

The central event will take place at the Pakistan Monument, where prominent national figures, including scholars, public officials, members of civil society, and representatives from various sectors, will gather to pay tribute.

Government officials said the observance of Youm-e-Tashakur serves as a symbol of national unity and resilience, reaffirming the country’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and honouring those who defend it.
