Islamabad, May 16, 2025: Pakistan has reaffirmed its support for China’s position on Arunachal Pradesh, reiterating its alignment with Beijing’s claims over the disputed territory amid renewed border tensions in the region.
During the weekly press briefing on Friday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan stated:
“Pakistan has seen reports regarding China’s position on Arunachal Pradesh and fully supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the People’s Republic of China.”
Khan’s comments come in response to recent media coverage and diplomatic exchanges over the Indian-administered region of Arunachal Pradesh, which China regards as part of its territory.
Rejecting Indian media reports alleging nuclear radiation related to recent cross-border hostilities, Khan dismissed the claims as “baseless and unfounded.” He emphasized that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both Pakistan and India have maintained contact since May 10, describing the communications as “vital for stability.”
Commenting on the regional security situation, the spokesperson blamed India’s “aggressive posture” for escalating tensions:
“India’s provocations have disrupted an already fragile peace. Pakistan, in response, targeted enemy military installations—actions that cannot be dismissed through propaganda.”
Khan confirmed that Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, Pakistan’s recent military engagement, was carried out in self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter, which allows states to respond when under armed attack.
“Our response was in defence of national sovereignty, and its rationale is clear and justified,” he said.
Welcoming the ceasefire agreement recently brokered between India and Pakistan, Khan urged New Delhi to demonstrate good faith in its implementation:
“We view the ceasefire as a positive step and call on India to implement it fully, in both letter and spirit.”
Pakistan’s reaffirmation of Chinese sovereignty over Arunachal Pradesh is likely to fuel further diplomatic friction in the region, particularly as New Delhi continues to assert its own claims over the territory. The development underscores the deepening China-Pakistan strategic partnership, particularly in counterbalancing India’s influence in the region.
