Dushanbe, May 29, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tajikistan’s capital on Thursday for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and participating in the International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation 2025.

Upon arrival at Dushanbe International Airport, the prime minister received a warm welcome from Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda, Deputy Foreign Minister Sharifzoda Farrukh Homiddin, and other senior officials.

During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to discuss enhanced cooperation in key sectors, including energy, trade, connectivity, and climate resilience. The prime minister will also extend Pakistan’s appreciation for Tajikistan’s strong diplomatic support during the recent four-day conflict with India.

A key highlight of the visit is PM Shehbaz’s participation in the Glaciers’ Preservation Conference, where he will address the gathering on the devastating impact of climate change on Pakistan’s glaciers and water systems. He is expected to highlight Pakistan’s commitment to climate action, sustainable development, and regional collaboration for environmental protection.

Accompanying the prime minister are Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi.

The Tajikistan visit marks the final leg of the prime minister’s four-nation diplomatic outreach tour, following earlier stops in Türkiye, Iran, and Azerbaijan. The tour is aimed at consolidating regional partnerships and expressing Pakistan’s gratitude for support during the recent military escalation with India.

The latest India-Pakistan standoff erupted on May 7, when at least 31 Pakistani civilians were martyred in unprovoked Indian airstrikes across Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan retaliated by downing six Indian fighter jets—including three Rafales—and intercepting dozens of drones. The four-day conflict claimed the lives of at least 11 Pakistani troops and 40 civilians before a ceasefire agreement was reached on May 10.

In the aftermath, Pakistan has intensified diplomatic efforts to counter Indian propaganda and present its peace-oriented narrative to the international community. As part of this campaign, Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will soon lead a high-level delegation to engage with world leaders, lawmakers, and media outlets across various countries.

The government continues to emphasize Pakistan’s commitment to peace, sovereignty, and regional stability, while calling on the global community to take notice of repeated provocations by India and the urgent need for climate cooperation across South Asia.
