Karachi, June 2, 2025: Businessman Salman Farooqi, owner of a private firm, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a motorcyclist in the Khayaban-e-Ittehad area of DHA Phase 6, Karachi.
The arrest follows a widely circulated video showing Farooqi, along with his armed security guard and driver, physically assaulting and threatening the motorcyclist at gunpoint after a minor collision between the victim’s motorcycle and Farooqi’s Land Cruiser.
According to eyewitnesses, the altercation escalated despite the victim being unarmed and visibly distressed. A woman accompanying the motorcyclist pleaded for mercy but was reportedly pushed aside as the assault continued. The incident occurred near Ittehad Commercial on May 31.
The complainant, Muhammad Saleem, who witnessed the incident, filed an FIR as a concerned citizen, stating that the victim was forcibly confined in the vehicle, physically abused, and threatened with dire consequences.
Following the complaint, DIG South and SSP South Mahzoor Ali confirmed that police conducted raids at Farooqi’s residence and office, resulting in his arrest. His driver and security guard were taken into custody earlier, and the Land Cruiser used in the assault has also been seized.
Police officials emphasized that Farooqi holds no official government position, asserting that “no one is above the law.” They also confirmed that an FIR (No. 25/278) has been registered at Gizri Police Station under the following sections of the Pakistan Penal Code section 506-B: criminal intimidation with a weapon, section 354: assault or use of criminal force to outrage modesty of a woman, section 342: wrongful confinement, section 34: common intention and section 504: Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace.
Authorities are still working to locate the victim, who has yet to come forward. Police have urged the individual to contact the nearest station so further legal proceedings can move forward.
