Islamabad, June 3, 2025:In a tragic and disturbing development, police have claimed that TikTok content creator Sana Yousaf was murdered after she repeatedly rejected a friendship proposal from the suspect. The revelation was made during a press briefing on Tuesday by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.
According to IGP Rizvi, the 22-year-old suspect, identified as Umar, allegedly became obsessed with Sana after multiple failed attempts to befriend her. “The Sana Yousaf case has sent shockwaves through Islamabad and across the country,” said Rizvi.
Police launched an intensive investigation, forming seven dedicated teams and interrogating 37 individuals. Law enforcement agencies conducted 11 raids across Islamabad and Faisalabad before apprehending the suspect in Faisalabad.
During the arrest, authorities recovered the murder weapon and Sana Yousaf’s iPhone from Umar’s possession. The suspect, a matriculation pass youth, had reportedly stalked the victim and visited her residence multiple times, with one incident involving him loitering outside for nearly eight hours, according to Rizvi.
The fatal incident occurred on June 2 outside Sana Yousaf’s residence in Islamabad’s Sumbal Police Station jurisdiction. Initial reports suggest that Umar had a brief exchange with the victim before opening fire. Sana was hit by two bullets and died on the spot.
The masked assailant initially fled the scene, prompting a city-wide search. The victim’s body was shifted to PIMS Hospital, where a postmortem was conducted. After completing legal formalities, the body was handed over to her family. Sana Yousaf hailed from Chitral and had a growing following on TikTok.
The brutal killing has triggered widespread outrage on social media, with many users demanding stricter laws to protect women from harassment and stalking. Advocacy groups have also renewed calls for stronger action against gender-based violence and digital harassment.
Police have assured the public that the investigation will be concluded swiftly and that the suspect will be brought to justice.
