Islamabad, June 15, 2025: Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Chief Commissioner Islamabad, and Director General Civil Defence, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, presided over a high-level meeting attended by CDA Board Members and other senior officers. The meeting focused on addressing Islamabad’s growing water challenges and advancing sustainable water management initiatives.

Highlighting the critical importance of water, Chairman Randhawa stated, “Water is a great blessing from Allah Almighty (SWT). Saving water is saving life, and every individual must play their part—every drop counts.” He reaffirmed CDA’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted access to clean and safe water for all citizens of the Federal Capital.

One of the key developments discussed was the strengthening of the Islamabad Water Agency, which is being equipped with modern resources, expert staff, and cutting-edge technology. “This agency reflects our long-term vision for sustainable water management in Islamabad,” Randhawa said. “We are enhancing its administrative and governance structure to make it more effective and responsive.”

The Chairman also called upon all departments—including CDA, MCI, and the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration—as well as civil society to work collectively to conserve water. He urged citizens to repair leaks, use water-efficient appliances, and adopt mindful water consumption habits.

He further emphasized the importance of awareness campaigns, especially in educational institutions, to promote water conservation and sustainable usage practices. “Engaging students, teachers, and communities is key to ensuring the responsible management of our water resources,” he noted.

The meeting was briefed on CDA’s ongoing and future initiatives, including exploring alternative water supply sources and modernizing the existing water distribution network. Various proposals and feasibility studies are underway, with stakeholder consultations ensuring inclusive and effective planning.

Chairman Randhawa also mentioned that CDA is actively engaging with local and international development partners to secure funding for long-term water projects. “Our objective is to provide safe and clean water to every citizen of Islamabad—now and for generations to come,” he said.

He concluded the meeting with a strong call to action: “Protecting water is not just a policy issue—it is a shared responsibility. Together, through individual and collective efforts, we can secure this vital resource for our future needs, including safe drinking water, agriculture, and other essential uses.”
