Islamabad, June 30, 2025: Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, called on Defence Secretary Lt. Gen (R) Muhammad Ali HI(M) to discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepening strategic ties. Ambassador Dr. Jemal briefed the Defence Secretary on the wide-ranging political, social, and legal reforms underway in Ethiopia under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, highlighting the country’s transformation and stability.

He emphasized that the opening of the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad and the launch of Ethiopian Airlines operations in Pakistan have injected new momentum into bilateral engagement. The Ambassador also noted Ethiopia’s strategic regional significance, its role in peace and security, and its leadership in regional integration efforts.

The Defence Secretary acknowledged and appreciated Ethiopia’s homegrown economic reforms aimed at achieving sustainable development. He reiterated Pakistan’s strong desire to strengthen ties with African nations, especially Ethiopia, and assured the Ambassador of his full support in promoting closer defence and diplomatic cooperation.

The meeting reflected the growing warmth in Pakistan-Ethiopia relations, with both sides expressing optimism about expanding collaboration across multiple sectors.
