Khankendi, Azerbaijan, July 4, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations during a high-level meeting held on the sidelines of the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit in Khankendi on Friday.

The two leaders reviewed progress on bilateral cooperation across various sectors and expressed satisfaction with the implementation of decisions made during their previous engagement.

In the context of recent Israeli aggression against Iran, the evolving regional security situation featured prominently in the discussion. Prime Minister Shehbaz praised President Pezeshkian’s restraint and diplomatic approach in managing the crisis and reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the people and government of Iran.

“Pakistan remains firmly committed to promoting peace and regional stability through dialogue and diplomacy,” PM Shehbaz stated. He also conveyed best wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

President Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its consistent diplomatic support at international forums and acknowledged Islamabad’s role in recent de-escalation efforts.

Prime Minister Shehbaz arrived in Azerbaijan on Thursday for a two-day official visit to attend the ECO Summit, held under the theme “New ECO Vision for a Sustainable and Climate Resilient Future.”

He was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
