Pakistan-India WCL 2025 clash officially cancelled

London, July 20, 2025: The highly anticipated World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 match between Pakistan and India, scheduled for Sunday at Edgbaston, has been officially cancelled.

Tournament organisers announced the decision through a formal statement issued on WCL’s official social media platform. The statement acknowledged recent efforts to foster goodwill through inter-nation sports events, such as Pakistan’s hockey tour to India and recent India-Pakistan volleyball fixtures. It stated that the intention behind hosting the WCL clash was to contribute positively to cross-border relations by delivering memorable moments to fans.

However, the organisers said they ultimately decided to cancel the match, expressing regret for any offence caused. “We sincerely apologise for hurting sentiments and hope people will understand that all we ever wanted was to bring a few happy moments to the fans,” the statement read.

Separately, former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan posted a formal notification on X, confirming his decision not to participate in WCL matches against Pakistan.

The cancellation comes shortly after Pakistan’s opening WCL victory against the England Champions. Led by Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan won by five runs, defending a total of 161. England managed 155-3 in their 20 overs, with Sohail Khan conceding only 10 runs in the final over to seal the win.

No announcement has yet been made regarding any potential rescheduling of the cancelled fixture.
