Islamabad, July 28, 2025: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday called for effective and comprehensive implementation of the federal government’s Digital Transformation Plan, stressing close coordination with provincial governments to promote transparency and efficiency.

Chairing a weekly review meeting on the progress of the Cashless and Digital Economy initiative, the prime minister emphasized that digitalization is essential for improving governance and service delivery. “The digitalization of the economy will help promote transparency and provide ease and convenience to the public at no additional cost,” he said.

He urged all provincial governments, including those of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, to extend full cooperation for the successful rollout of the plan. “With the support of provincial governments and relevant institutions, we must streamline efforts to achieve the targets within the set timelines,” the prime minister stated.

Shehbaz Sharif directed that regular and meaningful consultations with all stakeholders be institutionalized as part of the plan’s implementation process.

During the meeting, officials briefed the prime minister that the National Digital Commission and Pakistan Digital Authority have been established, and the necessary regulatory framework has been finalized. The appointment process for the Chairperson and Members of the Pakistan Digital Authority is in its final stages.

It was also noted that the Merchant Onboarding Framework for digital services was formally launched on July 25, 2025, marking a key step in expanding digital payment infrastructure.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, IT and Telecom Minister Shaza Fatima, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, chief secretaries of all four provinces, as well as from Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK, the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad Capital Territory, and other senior officials.
